Throughout the ages, human beings have been curious about the world around them. To seek understanding of this world and to shape it to suit our needs, is the essence of science and engineering. And when you think about it, almost every single thing around us is a product of science and engineering - derived from the earth and developed by people who were, above all else, curious to see if it could be done.
The world's scientists and engineers have slowly constructed a new habitat for humankind, overcoming countless geographic, economic and technological barriers, leading to a vastly improved standard of living in most countries around the globe.
In recent times, climate change has presented an important new challenge for the scientific community as scientists place an increasing amount of emphasis on eco-efficient design and sustainable power production. Add to the mix the ever-increasing world population and critically high demand for natural resources and you can begin to appreciate the value of knowledgeable scientists and engineers in today’s workforce.
Western Australia, with its abundance of natural resources, represents one of the world’s most important producers and Curtin is committed to becoming a leader in both education and research in the field of science and engineering.
