Curtin sponsors major ecological conference in Perth
December 2007
The Centre for Ecosystem Diversity and Dynamics (CEDD) and Curtin University were major sponsors of the recent highly successful Ecological Society of Australia conference held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 26-30 November 2007. The theme of the conference explored the role of ecology and ecologists in our society as the environment copes with global and local climate change, with CEDD hosting a symposium on issues relating to the conservation of biodiversity in species-rich temperate ecosystems. CEDD presented six oral presentations on topics as diverse as wetland monitoring, post-mining rehabilitation, and quarantine monitoring.
Curtin’s participation at the conference revolved around a display booth, that demonstrated Curtin’s commitment to understanding and conserving Western Australia’s biodiversity through the CEDD research centre and the teaching and research strengths of the Department of Environmental Biology. Curtin staff members were also involved in the organising and day-to-day running of the conference, which was attended by 450 delegates from Australia and overseas.
